Álvaro Matamala is director of VRA project cinematography and the Vaiu Docuseries exploring the nexus of social, economic, and political challenges in confronting the climate crisis. He began his career as Director of Photography for the award-winning short documentary Rezagados (2009), which received the Best Cinematography award at the Ovalle Film Festival. Between 2011 and 2013, he worked on audiovisual and still photography projects in Valparaíso and Santiago, collaborating with photographer Morten Andersen. Major media campaigns have included well-known brands in Chile such as Hotel Hyatt, Concha y Toro, and Falabella.
In 2018, he joined the national volunteer program Servicio País in Antilhue, Los Ríos Region, where he managed cultural projects with local organizations. Since 2019, he has directed Denébola Films, an audiovisual production company based in Valdivia, Chile, where he has focused on documentary media, corporate marketing, and content development for companies, public institutions, and social organizations. He holds a degree in Film with a specialization in Cinematography and Executive Production from the University of Valparaíso, Chile.
