Andrés Cortés is an independent expert on community engagement and Indigenous consultations in Latin America. He is a researcher and consultant at Fundación Aitue, an organization based in Chile’s Araucanía region dedicated to the design and evaluation of Indigenous public policies that promote sustainable development and value interculturality. His work focuses on community engagement and strategic communication, as well as formal dialogue processes, including the implementation of ILO Convention 169. In addition, Andrés serves as a community engagement consultant for SGA, an environmental consulting firm that provides environmental management services in Chile and abroad.
He previously held public service roles as Special Advisor on Indigenous Affairs at Chile’s Ministry of Social Development during the second administration of President Sebastián Piñera and as Coordinator of the Indigenous Affairs Unit in the same ministry during Piñera’s first term. He has also advised the Inter-American Development Bank on Indigenous policy and consultation processes.
Before entering public service, Andrés worked as a journalist for La Segunda and La Hora. He holds a degree in Journalism from Universidad Diego Portales, and a postgraduate diploma in Corporate Communications from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.
